Keeping the above view, a training session on ˜Handling anxiety' was conducted for the teachers at Prudence school Dwarka 22 by Ms. Ira Sehgal, a certified Quest trainer with vast experience in the field of education and conducts teacher training sessions in numerous areas.
Anxiety can influence classroom performance therefore, it is essential for a teacher to deal with varied situations in the classroom. With the right support, children develop strategies that help them manage their anxiety. Use of inappropriate language, complaints of students and indiscipline are the areas to be handled effectively. It becomes necessary to plan and organize the activities thereby engaging students to perform in a constructive way. Involving students in enactments, story-telling diverts their mind and reduces the level of anxiety. Anxiety during classroom learning can manifest in physical complaints, having headaches, nausea, stomachache, which could be the symptoms of anxiety. It becomes crucial to take proper care at the right time.
The session focused on dealing calmly by making eye contact with students and responding appropriately keeping in mind various learning patterns and handling techniques that enabled teachers to cater to their needs.
